Vasyl Khmeliuk
A painter and poet who went from the Ukrainian war of independence to the centre of Parisian artistic life. He fought in the struggle of 1917–1920, then studied at the Kraków Academy of Fine Arts, Charles University, and the Ukrainian Studio of Plastic Arts in Prague.
From 1928 he lived in Paris. He held a solo exhibition at the «Young Europe» gallery in 1932 and painted flowers, still lifes, landscapes and portraits in bright contrasting colour. His work is held in museums in London, Paris, New York, Philadelphia, Munich, Toronto, Stockholm and Lviv.
