Vasyl Yeroshenko

Writer, teacher and traveller (1890, Obukhivka in Slobozhanshchyna — 1952, the same village). Blinded at four by measles. He learned Esperanto, which took him to London and, in 1914, to Tokyo. He wrote in Japanese and Esperanto; his first book appeared in Tokyo in 1921. He lived in Burma and India, taught at Peking University, where he became a friend of Lu Xun, and spent his life teaching blind people.
