Volodymyr Dal

Volodymyr Dal (Vladimir Dahl; 1801, Luhansk works — 1872, Moscow) was a lexicographer, writer and ethnographer. A native of Luhansk, he compiled the explanatory dictionary of the Russian language, published as «Cossack Luhanskyi» and collected Ukrainian folklore, including folk tales.
