Ukrainian military leader, brigadier general (heneral-khorunzhyi) of the Army of the Ukrainian People's Republic (1891–1930). Born on 20 April (2 May, New Style) 1891 in the village of Budyshche in the Zvenyhorodka area (now Cherkasy region). He served in the army in the First World War. After 1917 he took part in the Ukrainian military movement, in the insurgent struggle against the Bolsheviks and in the First Winter Campaign of the UNR Army in 1919–1920. In autumn 1921 he led the UNR Insurgent Army, which left the internment camps in Poland for Ukraine in the Second Winter Campaign.
